Quick Pointers On How To Choose Your Company's Business Phone System

Purchasing a business phone system is not an easy endeavor, but with the right mind set and a little knowledge about business telephones, you can find a viable, budget friendly solution to your business' communication needs.

One of the very first things to take into consideration would whether you would be needing a key system or a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) system. Your decision would be based largely on two things, which would first be the number of individual stations required in your office and second, the pace in which your company is expected to grow.

PBX systems are highly recommended for large business enterprises or even smaller ones that expect to grow quite rapidly in the coming years. Time was, PBX systems were considered the creme de la creme of phone systems, with nonpareil functionality and a wide variety of different features, but this is not quite the case these days. Now, for the most part, the biggest difference between the two types of systems is simply that PBX systems will allow for more stations than key systems. Since PBX allows more, it can be inferred that they are more costly.

That said, a key system is generally recommended as the best choice for smaller businesses with few employees, say about thirty or forty at the most. Key systems offer, for the most part, the same features that PBX systems offer but can be substantially cheaper. Fringe businesses would still be advised to go with PBX systems, though. Replacing your entire system, after all, would be needed if you are planning to take the next step and expand your business.

Whether purchasing a key system or PBX, professional installation will be necessary and is often just as costly as the phone system itself, so be sure to factor that into your budget. Also consider your leasing situation if your company doesn't own its own building. You don't want to pay for an expensive install only to have to change locations soon after.

Your nearest phone system retailer or wholesaler should be a goldmine of information when it comes to discussing each of the two systems in depth, and discussing the option to expand. He or she should be willing and able to guide you in making the right purchase for your business.
